Comprehension: Essential to the Common Core State Standards
The Common Core State Standards emphasize high-level comprehension skills. Specifically, the CCSS stress the importance of "close, attentive reading" of a range of texts at varying levels of difficulty. Research also cites that comprehension is most effectively taught through explicit instruction and the "gradual release of responsibility" model.
Spotlight on Comprehension is aligned to the Language Arts Common Core State Standards. The Common Core State Standards are integrated throughout each level, and found in every student book and instructional resource.
